Thankful for: Corn on the cob, cut off. I'm thankful for our neighbors who share so freely from their garden.
I'm reading: This is a secret, but I read children's books. And I found one I fell in love with. Mira's Diary -- Lost in Paris by Marissa Moss. (9-12 year olds -- my girls wouldn't have enjoyed it at that age.) I love free books, too. So this one hit that, too. Here's the beginning. I think you'll see why I loved it from the start.

Thanks to time travel, Mira went back to the late 1800s which included meeting Mary Cassatt. Oh, and she wanted Claude to kiss her. This book has some "real life" issues, so you should read it yourself before giving it to your child. And gargoyles... That, too.

I just have to comment. I LOVE THE QUOTES! I laugh and tell my kids they were going to the bookstore while they were growing inside me. David and I both love to read and from the time my kids were wee wee little I was reading to them. Both of my children love to read now. The local Barnes and Noble know who we are. They would laugh and say if someone was looking for a book in the store my son could probably tell them where to find it. My dad does woodworking and I had him make a shelf that runs the length of my sons room along the top of the wall, and he built a wooden ladder that slides back and forth to reach the books on top. Yes, books are a passion for us:)
ReplyDeleteAwesome! When Melanie was young she had over 500 books just in her room. We took Emily to Barnes and Noble most Friday nights for story hour. She got to meet some of the characters from her favorite books. The girls are voracious readers -- I can tell where their heart is by looking at their stacks of books -- marriage, parenting, decorating, etc. Love the idea of your son's shelf.
